Jean LURÇAT (1892-1966). L.A., Saint-Céré October 3, 1962, t - Lot 13
Jean LURÇAT (1892-1966). L.A., Saint-Céré October 3, 1962, to a friend; 2pages in-8 at his addresses. About his Belle de St Trop poster. He gives these details: "The poster was almost entirely developed in Marseille when I was doing my season in Aix. Its theme is not that of Le Coq, which I had previously been asked to do by Geneva: I had found it tedious even to redo my "Cantique" for Nice. But on the other hand, I've done my best to come up with a poster that's lively, cheerful and sunny, if I dare say so; it goes without saying, taking into account your comments, that there will be no more mention of the "Belles de St Trop". Cities are competitors, jealous, gossipy it seems! Let's not excite them, let's not incite them to slide down the slippery slope of petty sensitivities. So, my subject will be a pretty girl with a good hat, not excessively busty; dressed in light colors, as beautiful as the Azur d'Azur. I'm expecting the 1st proof in the next few days. [...] The mention I had planned, which was part of the whole, has vanished ipso facto. I'll probably replace it with "Belle d'Azur". I'll leave you one hundred percent to judge its financial strategy. The farmer from Auvergne is, in this circumstance, a clumsy and gruff advisor"...
