A beautiful old loom pulley whose facial features reproduce - Lot 77
A beautiful old loom pulley whose facial features reproduce those of the Baulé / Yaouré masks: girded by a jagged collar, arched eyebrows, half-closed eyes, the coiffure drawing a tripartite motif on the top of the forehead, the hair raised into a three-shell chignon whose end falls on the nape of the neck. The finesse of the modelling of the features and the rendering of the headdress and the deeply engraved geometric motifs adorning the stirrup are particularly striking. Baulé or Yauré, Ivory Coast Wood, very fine glossy patina from use. H. 18 cm Provenance : - Private collection, Paris - Sotheby's, Paris, June 11, 2008, no. 100 - Richard Vinatier Collection, Arles
