[André-François, baron BRON DE BAILLY (1757-1847) cavalry general]. P.A.S. from Colonel BONET, May 1847; 3 1/2 pages in-4, on Ministry of War letterhead, with erasures and corrections. Extremely detailed obituary of Bron de Bailly, recounting his military career, particularly in Egypt, with interesting details. ... "He was the last surviving general of the Army of Egypt [......] distinguished by Gal Bonaparte, who, when he organized the Army of the East, wanted to take him with him to the land of Egypt, where French valour was to perform so many wonders, and awaken by the splendour of its victories [...] the Pharaohs, asleep for 40 centuries in the depths of their Pyramids [...]....] In Egypt as in Italy, Bron proved himself a fearless soldier, and when the English came to dispute our conquest, we saw him at the head of a cavalry brigade, protecting the retreat of the French infantry and art[iller]ie to Alexandria [...] he had one horse killed and another wounded under him"... Etc. Attached is a petition from a winegrower from "Savigny en terre plaine" in the baillage of Avallon, September 12, 1760.
