SAINT-DOMINGUE. Imprimé, Propositions à MM. les créanciers de la succession de feu M. MAILLART, ancien Intendant de la Marine à Saint-Domingue (Paris, Knapen, 1759), 19 p. fol. brochure, handwritten title on blank white paper cover. Succession of Simon-Pierre Maillart de Berron (1689-1758), former Intendant of the Navy in Saint-Domingue, born in Auxonne, who distinguished himself by the wisdom of his administration and rendered great services to this colony. At the bottom of the document, opposite the name of procureur Plumet, is the handwritten signature Maillart Dumesle, "one of the heirs under benefit of inventory of the said Maillart & being at the head of the affairs of the succession". This memorandum contains invaluable information on, among other things, the areas of cane planted, their yield, the income that can be expected from them, from which "25,000 livres can be deducted to replace the annual loss of Negres, estimated at 5 per 100 per year", the different possible methods of exploitation, etc. Another print is attached: Copie du Contrat d'Union passé entre les Créanciers, résidants à Paris, de la Succession de feu M. Maillart, ancien Intendant de la Marine à Saint-Domingue (Paris, 1760). Handwritten date on 1st leaf (slight trace of wetness). It enshrines the solution of a régie proposed by the heirs; the modalities are detailed in xxvi articles.
